Biography:

Age 59 of Anchorage, Alaska passed away suddenly on August 25, 2020 as a result of a pedestrian accident. He was the eldest son of Doreen (Currie) and Harold Ettinger.

He was born July 25, 1961 in Glace Bay, Cape Breton.

He is survived by his Mother, daughter Kieran of Anchorage, siblings Maryann, Baton Rouge; Andrew, Vancouver; Jonathan (Dionne), Amherst; niece Isabelle, Amherst.

Music was the thread that wove its way through Peters life. From his first musical, Oliver, in Amherst as a child, making his way through the CEC music program with the much revered Ron McKay, to many years touring with his many bands, in Vancouver and then Anchorage where he enjoyed many years performing at Koots. He performed in front of tens of thousands of people and we have heard many of you.

A new incredible light in his life arrived in 2010, Kieran. Kieran’s accomplishments in school, martial arts and a love of reading were all a source of great pride for Peter. Being a great Dad was important to him. He would tell us how incredible Kieran was and how he loved to watch her grow and he loved every minute of it!

Peter played hockey as a kid and continued to play while in Vancouver with other musicians in a late night league which practiced in Rogers place. His love for the Philadelphia Flyers required him to grow a thick skin while hanging out with friends. Golf came later and we enjoyed hearing of his successes along with his rather muted reports of sometimes tougher rounds.

It goes without saying Peter enjoyed conversation. Peter would often bring a different “point of view’ that would lead to some great long chats.

We want to thank his extended family in Anchorage. Sal and Bart we can not thank you enough for your support and love for Peter. Karin, Bill and Korandin you were a family that welcomed him in.

The Vancouver Moursinjohns’ loved Pete as a son and his time with Duncan was precious to him.

Our lives will never be the same without him, but we’re eternally grateful for the time we had.

We will hold a celebration of life for Peter in Anchorage, Vancouver and Amherst at a later date.
