Biography:

Kostas Karousakis ( Agios Georgios Chios , December 25, 1943 [ 1 ] – Athens , September 15, 2024) was a Greek folk singer, lyricist, composer and businessman.

Biography

He was born in the village of Agios Georgios in Kampos of Chios on Christmas 1943.

The singer’s name was linked to the case of Nikos Koemtzis , which shook the Greek judicial annals in the midst of the junta.

Kostas Karousakis was singing at the Neraida nightclub in Athens in Kypseli . On Saturday, February 24, 1973, Nikos Koemtzis went with his company and his brother Demosthenes to have fun. His brother commissioned Markos Vamvakaris ‘ Vergoules and got up to dance. During the song, two policemen ostentatiously harassed Demosthenes while he was dancing and Nikos Koemtzis got up and killed three people with a knife (the two policemen, Pegia and Christodoulakis, and another person from their company), injuring seven others. [ 2 ] [ 3 ]

In 1974 he opened his own center “Karousakis” in the Tzitzifies region of Attica. Many popular singers of the time and others who were at the beginning of their careers passed through the band. Some of these names are Rena Violanti, Antipas , Katerina Stanisi , Naya Troni, Pizza Papadopoulou , Kiki Asimakopoulou, Christina Alexopoulou, Marina Vlahaki , Kostas Kollias, Spyros Denaxas, Errica Broyer ‘s ballet , Teris Chrysos , Angela Dimitriou and many others [ 3 ] .

He was married to Iouli Karousakis and had four children, one of whom is the singer, Eleni Karousakis.

He died on September 15, 2024, aged 80. He will be buried on September 17 at the Old Faliro cemetery. [ 4 ]
