Biography:
James Donart Webster , better known as Jimmie Webster, (bornin Van Wert , Ohio – died onin Long Island , New York ) is an American guitarist known as the inventor of two-handed tapping , known as Touch Guitar . His guitar teacher , Harry DeArmond , shows him how to use the right-hand hammer-on technique (originally, to demonstrate the proper sensitivity of pickups produced by DeArmond’s company). Webster delves into the idea and invents a new guitarist approach that will mark a milestone in the history of the instrument, since tapping is a very widespread technique today. In 1952 he wrotehe Touch System for Electric and Amplified Spanish Guitar , sometimes referred to as The Illustrated Touch Method .
Webster’s name is strongly associated with the Gretsch brand . Many of the patents acquired by Webster are now owned by the company.
