Gerry Arling ( Emmen , October 25 , 1961 – February 2025 ) was a Dutch jazz and pop musician .

Life course

Originally from Emmer-Compascuum, he studied Light Music (Jazz) in Hilversum . From 1983 onwards he made a name for himself in the pop circuit in and around the city of Groningen . He played bass guitar in many local bands , often together with his brother Harry Arling on drums .

In later years he increasingly focused on jazz and, together with Richard Cameron in the duo Arling & Cameron , electronic jazz-rock. They won the Popprijs for this in 2000. [ 1 ]

In 1997 he mixed the album Talking Talking Talking for Fay Lovsky .

In May 2005 he presented De Tijd 1.1 in the Grand Theatre in Groningen , a trance-jazz-fusion-live-remix of the Louis Andriessen composition De Tijd . This was supported by electronic musician Jan Klug and singer Vera van der Poel and was introduced by the composer.

In the 2005/2006 season, together with his brother Harry Arling, he created the musical children’s show The Astronaut and the Star, in which two actors (Harry Arling and Nynke Heeg ) shared the role with animated characters projected on a large screen. The character voices were provided by Bert Visscher , Meindert Talma , Mads Wittermans and Arno van der Heyden , among others . The Astronaut and the Star had approximately 60 performances from the autumn of 2006 to the spring of 2007.

Gerry Arling died in February 2025 at the age of 63. [ 1 ]
