Biography:
Hey y’all my name is Doug Kiker and I am previously a garbage man that lives in Grand Bay, AL. I have loved music my whole life and I love to sing to my 2 year old daughter Elianna. One day I was on one of my routes on the garbage truck singing and a lady in her driveway said “you should try out for American Idol you’d do awesome!” At first I kind of laughed about it, but ironically at home one day my fiancé told me American Idol was coming to Mobile for open call auditions and it was being held on my birthday. I took it as a sign and thought why not? My daughter loves to hear me sing, maybe other people do too. So I went to the audition and there were over 2000 people there it seemed like and I almost turned right around and left!
But then I decided that I wasn’t going to leave and so I didn’t. I ended up not going through in Mobile but found out they were taking the auditions to Baton Rouge, LA. Not wanting to give up I decided to go since it wasn’t but a few hour drive from where I live. It was worth it because they passed me through and sent me to audition in front of the judges in Savannah, GA. Giving it all I had thankfully the judges liked what they heard and sent me to Hollywood. During Hollywood Week I was so nervous I screwed up my song and I was sent home. So now I realize that if I work as hard on my singing as I did on the back of the garbage truck, I think I got a chance.
